Arsenal need a centre back. That's loud and clear. But who could that be? We take a look at 5 realistic transfers Arsenal could
Alessio Romagnoli
AC Milan's struggles have been evident over the recent years, with the club heavily in dept after there previous owners left the club. With Ivan Gazidis as their chief negotiator and the fact that Milan are in dept, perhaps we could prize one of their prized assets. In instalments deal would fit them too, as they need to get wages off the books and paying debt year by year could fit them more. Ivan Gazidis would surely have a soft spot for Arsenal and for an offer from £30m-£50m, it could be tempting. Now, we have heard the rumour that Unai wants Danielle Rugani on a 2 year loan and option to buy for £36m. Romagnoli would be a MAJOR upgrade. Rugani in the Serie A, averages 0.5 tackles per game while Romagnoli averages 1.1 tackles. Rugani averages 1.9 fouls per game, while Romagnoli averages 0.6 fouls. Rugani averages 3.4 clearances a game, while Romagnoli averages 5.2 clearances. All this in a much poorer Milan side. Rugani isn't a better passer either. He averages a 90% pass success rate to Romagnoli's 91%, and averages 51 passes to Romagnoli's 55. All together, Romagnoli would be a big upgrade on any Italian defender we could realistically sign. And at just 24 years old, he could be an amazing signing.
Djene Dakonam
Arsenal fans have been crying out for an experienced centre back to join the club, and Djene could be that man. He is valued at £30m by Getafe, and rightly so for his impressive 2018/19 campaign. Again, we will compare him to another centre back Issa Diop stats in 2018/19. Note, Diop was better last year but Dakonam would be probably a quarter the price and offer more experience. Diop averaged 2.1 tackles last year to Djene's 1.6 tackles. Both impressive, just Diops a little more. However Diop averaged 1.9 interceptions last year to Djene's 2.2 interceptions. Also, the clearances are similar. But Diop edges it with 4.7 average clearances to 4.4 for Djene. Although Diop is a better player than Djene, Djene is similar to Diop and would cost 3 times less than Diop. The 27 year old is in a Getafe that came 5th, when just 2 seasons prior they were in the second tier of Spanish football and the defensive side, is mainly due to Djene's solidness at the back.
Presnel Kimpembe
Presnel Kimpembe's stock has fallen at PSG this year because of less minutes. Although still racking up over 2000 minutes, his price has fallen from £60m to £30m and this could be Arsenal's time to swoop in. Unai Emery is already familiar with Kimpembe during his time at PSG and was the one to make his stock skyrocket. Since his stock has fallen, he has still displayed solid numbers. We are gonna compare him with French teammate and Barcelona centre back starter, Clement Lenglet. Lenglet averages 2 tackles a game to Kimpembe's 2.3 tackles. Lenglet averages 0.9 interceptions, compared to 1.3 for Kimpembe. He also commits 0.1 more fouls then Kimpembe a game. Although, Lenglet averages 1.1 more clearances a game but Kimpembe's clearances aren't very high at all at just 1.9 clearances. He has still showed he is an amazing defender and really has potential to be one of the very best, and Arsenal should do all they can to sign him.
